Suspicious Activity: I have very little reports of suspicious activity, vandalism, or theft recently. If we continue to be “present” and active in our community, we can create an atmosphere where criminals will fear being seen! So, get out and be seen by the community and other neighbors!
Gating Coventry Homes: Some discussion has been occurring about gating our community by some residents… This is an HOA issue and can be discussed at an HOA meeting. Here is an article about the effectiveness of gated communities. In the article, the local police chief said that what actually affected crime rates was whether or not neighbors were looking out for one another!!! Amazing…
ALERT ID: The Henderson Police Department has made available the AlertID network to its residents. AlertID uses the newest online technology to create instant, two-way communications between citizens and federal, state, and local authorities to provide immediate information on crime, terrorism or natural disasters that can threaten the safety of your family and community. They contact its participants through email or text about any police activity near your home.

IN COVENTRY HOMES
I feel the CNW effort is not just about preventing crimes through communication, but creating a “community” by getting to know those that live near you! This is why we provide our residents with opportunities to meet other residents… Here are a few events that you have the opportunity to participate in:
COVENTRY HOMES WINE WALK AND BLOCK PARTY: On this coming Friday night (23rd), the CNW will be having a fundraising wine tasting in Coventry Homes. All neighbors and friends are welcome to attend. Five Coventry Home’s homeowners have agreed to host a tasting at their home. We will walk from home to home and taste. Afterwards, we are hosting a block party with a movie for the kids, fire pits, and good company. An Italian dinner will be provided at the block party. The cost is 25 dollars per adult and the kids are free.
COVENTRY HOMES FAMILY CAMPING TRIP TO ZION NATIONAL PARK: A group of Coventry Homes residents are traveling to Zion National Park for a weekend of fun, hiking, biking, and camping. All are welcome to attend!!! The dates are September 29 - Oct 2, 2011. Go to http://www.recreation.gov to reserve a camp site. Amity and I have a campsite in the “B” loop, if you are interested in staying close… We will be hosting a “potluck” in our site on Saturday night!!!
HALLOWEEN SAFE STREET ON MINUET STREET: For the third year, the neighbors on Minuet Street have agreed to host a “Safe Street” on Halloween night. We will blocking off the street to “through” vehicle traffic and having a bounce house, a hot dog cart, a “hay ride”, fire pits, and other fun stuff.
